Who We Are And
What We Do

AFGE Local 476 represents approximately 2,500 employees in the U.S. Department of Housing
and Urban Development in HUD headquarters,
Washington, D.C. Field Office, and the
Los Angeles Departmental Enforcement Center.

We are part of the National Council 222 of HUD Locals,
and the American Federation of Government
Employees (AFGE). Local 476 represents workers throughout HUD's program areas from the
lowest grade employees to GS-15 staff.

Local 476 represents our workers by providing a voice in the workplace and
negotiating working conditions. We hold management accountable, protecting your rights
at work. Our goal is to work together to build an effective union for HUD's government workers
so we can ensure justice, equality, fairness, and dignity for all employees. We believe
a strong union provides the framework for a productive and creative workplace.

Members receive exclusive discounts worth thousands of dollars in savings for travel and entertainment, financial and legal services, auto and insurance services, and more, through our affiliations with AFGE. Check out all the benefits of membership!

Located in Room 3142 of the HUD Headquarters Building.
We are a volunteer organization whose officers are elected by the membership.

“I reached out to ask for Union help in defending myself against a charge against me. You put me in touch with AFGE counsel who took my case at no charge to me, a Union member. I just received word today that the case was closed with no finding of any violation. I’d like to express my gratitude to you as a steward, our AFGE local, AFGE as a whole, and the general counsel at main AFGE, for allowing me to continue to serve the American people every day. Thank you all so much.”

“The stands you all encouraged me to take, and the arguments you encouraged me to make (as set forth in the numerous writings and the 250-page complaint which we, as a team, filed), led to an agreement with HUD that brings some measure of justice to me personally, but also to others at HUD who suffer from HUD managers’ violations of norms, fair play, and practices required under our contract. I am writing to thank you and commend you.”
